Wild and Scenic Teen Film Festival – April 24, 7 – 10pm

MMTS and Dynamic Earth, in partnership with the internationally acclaimed Wild and Scenic Film Festival are offering a mining and earth sciences themed film festival for teens interested in films about nature, innovation, and the environment. The film festival is a powerful medium to educate and inspire youth aged 13-18 about mining and the opportunities this great industry has to offer. In addition to the films, MMTS will host a keynote speaker who will share their experiences in the mining.

Modern Mining & Technology Showcase, New Sudbury Centre April 25, 9:30am to 6:00pm
This Showcase, located at the New Sudbury Centre, features mining and technology-related exhibits from businesses, government agencies, as well as educational and industry partners and sponsors. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in our industry and current mining activities in our region at the interactive displays.   • The ninth annual MineOpportunity challenge gives participating high school students a unique experience that is fun, exciting and educational. MineOpportunity is a competitive game that allows students to explore geology, engineering and mining by answering questions and completing activities that are hands-on and curriculum based.

Discover Sudbury Elementary School Tours, April 28 – May 3

One Elementary school from each Greater Sudbury school board (Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) will be selected for a full day Discover Sudbury Bus Tour and Dynamic Earth experience courtesy of MMTS. Participating students and teachers will see first-hand how the mining industry has evolved and how the land has been reclaimed, while learning about the history of the region and evolution of the Sudbury mining.

PDAC Mining Matters Workshops for Grade 4 Teachers, April 30 – May 1
French and English teachers from the Sudbury area will attend a subsidized Mining Matters workshop to learn how to deliver Earth Science based curriculum-linked activities, and to use the educational kits provided. While the teachers are learning in the workshop, their students will visit Dynamic Earth for special MMTS programming. PDAC Mining Matters develops partnerships in education, industry, and government to establish new initiatives and produce outreach materials tailored primarily to youth and teachers. These materials include award-winning classroom curriculum.
